Grayscale Investments has expanded in-kind investing across 10 cryptocurrency investment products, allowing eligible investors to contribute digital assets directly in exchange for shares rather than first selling their holdings for cash.
Announced on October 21, 2026, the service covers products linked to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Avalanche, Chainlink, Hyperliquid, Sui and Zcash. The initiative creates an additional route for cryptocurrency holders to transfer their existing exposure into conventional investment structures, potentially reducing transaction costs and the operational responsibilities associated with managing digital assets directly.
However, the service is not available as an unrestricted retail exchange facility. Investors must meet eligibility requirements and arrange primary-market subscriptions through an authorized participant or an intermediary connected to one.
Grayscale said the expansion reflects growing demand for institutional custody, portfolio flexibility and more efficient integration of cryptocurrency holdings into traditional financial accounts.
Ten Products Carry Minimums Between $80,300 and $364,800
The eligible lineup includes the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (BTC), Ethereum Staking Mini ETF (ETH), Solana Staking ETF (GSOL), XRP Trust ETF (GXRP) and Dogecoin Trust ETF (GDOG). Additional products include the Avalanche Staking ETF (GAVA), Chainlink Trust ETF (GLNK), Hyperliquid Staking ETF (HYPG), Sui Staking ETF (GSUI) and Zcash ETF (ZCSH).
According to Grayscale’s October 20 reference figures, the Bitcoin Mini Trust carries the highest approximate minimum investment at $364,800, followed by the Zcash ETF at $322,600 and Hyperliquid Staking ETF at $282,600.
The XRP Trust requires approximately $257,000, while the Avalanche and Ethereum products have minimums of $235,800 and $232,300, respectively.
The Sui ETF’s minimum stands at $148,400, compared with $107,900 for Chainlink and $95,550 for Dogecoin. Solana has the lowest stated threshold at approximately $80,300. These amounts fluctuate with cryptocurrency prices and remain subject to product availability, intermediary arrangements and applicable fees.
Grayscale emphasized that investors may benefit from reduced self-custody responsibilities and potentially lower execution costs by avoiding separate cryptocurrency sales and subsequent cash subscriptions. Shares can also be incorporated into brokerage and retirement accounts, while certain holdings may qualify for margin, collateral or options-based strategies.
Expansion Builds on SEC’s 2025 In-Kind Approval
The development follows the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s July 2025 approval of in-kind creations and redemptions for cryptocurrency exchange-traded products. That regulatory decision allowed authorized participants to exchange underlying digital assets for fund shares, bringing cryptocurrency ETP operations closer to established commodity ETF practices.
Grayscale’s latest initiative extends access to eligible investors through authorized-participant arrangements rather than introducing a separate cryptocurrency trading platform. The distinction matters because investors receive securities representing exposure to digital assets, not direct ownership of the underlying tokens.
Grayscale also cautioned that in-kind subscriptions involve potential custody, execution and counterparty risks. Fund shares may trade at premiums or discounts to net asset value, while certain transactions can involve market impact, slippage or unexpected tax consequences.
The company has not disclosed projected subscription volumes or quantified the cost savings investors could achieve. Consequently, the announcement establishes a new investment mechanism rather than demonstrating immediate inflows into the participating products.
For institutional cryptocurrency holders, the service could simplify the transition from direct token ownership to securities-based portfolio management. Its broader impact will depend on investor eligibility, transaction costs, tax treatment and whether existing holders choose to transfer meaningful amounts of cryptocurrency into Grayscale products.
