Yuga Labs Launches Mudwater Trading Cards on Solana, Opens…

Yuga Labs, the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), launched Mudwater, a physical and digital trading card collection on Solana, on October 17, 2026, expanding its NFT ecosystem beyond its traditional Ethereum infrastructure.

The collection debuted during ApeFest 2026 in Charleston, South Carolina, with claims opening for holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs.

Its inaugural release, Swamp Origins, features 120 artworks based on BAYC imagery, including standard, foil, serialized and rare cracked-ice editions. Each BAYC NFT qualifies for 10 packs, while each MAYC NFT qualifies for two packs. Every pack contains 10 cards, with eligible holders able to claim their allocations until January 19, 2027.

The launch represents Yuga Labs’ latest attempt to expand the utility of its established NFT intellectual property through physical collectibles, blockchain ownership and trading incentives.

Mudwater Introduces 240,000 Packs and Cross-Chain Claims

Mudwater’s initial supply consists of 10,000 boxes containing 24 packs each, equivalent to 240,000 packs and 2.4 million individual cards. According to the project’s published allocation structure, 7,134 boxes, representing 71.34% of supply, are reserved for community distributions to existing Ape holders.

Another 2,000 boxes, or 20%, form a commercial reserve, while 566 boxes are allocated to community onboarding and 300 boxes to partner communities. The physical cards are being produced by Orange Cap Games, with corresponding digital collectibles issued on Solana.

Claims operate through Totems, which use Ethereum’s ERC-6551 token-bound account standard to connect existing BAYC and MAYC NFTs with their associated collectible allocations. This creates a cross-chain structure in which eligibility originates from Ethereum-based NFTs while the resulting trading cards exist on Solana.

Totems, unopened packs and individual cards can be traded through OpenSea. However, the project’s physical-to-digital conversion functionality remains under development, with detailed redemption and custody arrangements yet to be fully disclosed.

The collection also includes eight serialized cracked-ice one-of-one cards among its rarest collectibles.

ApeCoin Trading Rewards Connect Solana to Ethereum

Mudwater introduces a trading incentive intended to connect secondary-market activity with ApeCoin, the cryptocurrency associated with Yuga Labs’ broader ecosystem. Under the announced structure, qualifying Mudwater NFT transactions carry a 2.5% reflection fee alongside a separate 2.5% royalty.

The reflection mechanism uses proceeds to purchase APE tokens, which are subsequently distributed among eligible collectors in proportion to their Mudwater holdings. This arrangement could generate recurring ApeCoin purchases if the collection develops sustained secondary-market activity.

However, the amount of APE purchased will depend on actual trading volume, and the launch does not guarantee meaningful token demand. Mudwater also marks a notable expansion beyond Ethereum and ApeChain, the Layer-2 network associated with Yuga Labs’ existing ecosystem.

Solana has attracted growing interest from digital collectible platforms because of its transaction infrastructure and established NFT marketplace activity. For Yuga Labs, the launch offers an opportunity to reach additional collectors while providing existing BAYC and MAYC holders with new assets linked to their NFTs. Nevertheless, the commercial outlook remains uncertain.

The collection’s longer-term performance will depend on collector participation, secondary-market liquidity, physical redemption functionality and whether its trading incentives remain attractive beyond the initial distribution.

Mudwater’s launch establishes another cross-chain use case for NFT intellectual property, but its ability to generate sustained activity remains to be demonstrated.
