Talos Adds STS Digital Crypto Options Liquidity Across 400…

Talos has added STS Digital to its Provider Network, allowing mutual institutional clients to access the Bermuda-regulated dealer’s spot and options prices through their existing trading workflows. According to the August 5 announcement, the integration supports electronic and request-for-quote execution across major cryptocurrencies and a wider range of altcoins where institutional options liquidity has remained limited.

The connection expands the distribution of liquidity STS Digital already provides rather than creating a new exchange or pool of capital. STS acts as principal, quoting prices from its own book and taking the other side of accepted transactions. Talos supplies the infrastructure through which clients can request, compare, execute and process those trades alongside their other providers.

The distinction matters for institutions assessing what the announcement changes. Clients do not receive automatic access to STS Digital simply because they use Talos. They must still qualify for the service and negotiate their own bilateral commercial, credit and legal arrangements with STS. Existing custody and settlement relationships also remain in place.

What the Integration Changes for an Options Desk

Institutional crypto options have often been traded through voice, messaging applications or separate dealer interfaces. That fragmentation makes it harder to compare prices, maintain an audit trail and connect an executed trade with risk, custody and settlement systems. The problem becomes more pronounced with altcoins, where fewer dealers are prepared to quote meaningful size or hold the resulting volatility risk on their balance sheets.

Talos’s request-for-quote platform places spot, options, baskets and multi-leg transactions within a standardized workflow. A trader can send a request to eligible liquidity providers, compare responses and retain data on quotes and fills. Adding STS Digital puts another principal dealer inside that process without requiring each mutual client to build and maintain a separate technical connection.

Maxime Seiler, Chief Executive Officer at STS Digital, said the connection gives the firm access to institutions already using Talos for digital asset execution.

“Talos has built the institutional rails that serious digital asset allocators trade through, and the firms behind it have set the standard for how institutional connectivity should work in this market. Integrating with Talos puts STS Digital’s pricing in options and spot directly in front of that audience, in the workflow they already use. For us, this is the next logical step after the Full ‘F’ License: deepening institutional distribution through the partners our clients already trust,” Seiler said.

STS Digital says its platform covers more than 400 tokens across spot, vanilla options, exotic options and structured products. Broad coverage can be useful to funds hedging token portfolios or trading relative volatility, but the number of supported assets does not establish how much liquidity is available in every instrument. Executable size, spread, maturity, collateral requirements and the dealer’s willingness to warehouse risk will still vary by token and market conditions.

Talos Provides Connectivity, Not the Counterparty

Daniel Packham, Vice President and Head of Provider Network at Talos, said STS Digital’s altcoin coverage addresses a part of the options market where institutional liquidity has historically been thin.

“STS Digital is one of the most active and sophisticated crypto derivatives dealers in the market, and the breadth of their options coverage includes altcoins, where institutional liquidity has historically been thin. Bringing STS Digital onto the Talos Provider Network gives our clients access to OTC derivatives liquidity in a regulated, principal context, executed through the workflows they already rely on for the rest of their digital asset trading,” Packham said.

Talos is a software and connectivity provider rather than the counterparty to transactions completed with STS Digital. Its legal disclosure states that clients must negotiate arrangements with liquidity providers independently and that Talos is not party to those agreements. The integration can reduce engineering and workflow work, but it does not transfer STS Digital’s credit risk to Talos or eliminate the need for counterparty due diligence.

This separation between the technology layer and the trading counterparty is increasingly common in institutional crypto. Netcoins selected Talos as part of its effort to improve liquidity aggregation and execution infrastructure, while Talos has also integrated its order and execution system with BlackRock’s Aladdin platform. In both cases, Talos connects workflows and providers without becoming the venue, custodian or principal dealer for every trade.

What the Bermuda Full Licence Does and Does Not Mean

STS Digital operates under a Full F Licence issued by the Bermuda Monetary Authority under the Digital Asset Business Act. The Bermuda framework has three licence stages: a Test Licence, a Modified Licence and a Full Licence. The full category is the jurisdiction’s highest authorization level and can cover activities including digital asset exchanges, derivatives services, custody, lending and payment services, depending on the permissions granted to the firm.

STS Digital began with a Test Licence in 2023, moved to a Modified Licence in 2025 and received its Full Licence on April 30, 2026. The progression indicates that the company completed Bermuda’s staged supervisory process. It does not guarantee the performance of an option, remove counterparty exposure or mean that every STS product is available in every jurisdiction.

That caveat is particularly relevant because STS trades as principal. If a client buys an option from the firm, STS is the contractual counterparty and must manage the resulting market and credit exposure. Regulation can impose governance, capital, reporting and control requirements, but institutions must still assess the dealer’s balance sheet, collateral terms, default provisions and settlement arrangements.

STS has separately joined BitGo’s Go Network to support off-exchange settlement with assets held in qualified custody. That arrangement addresses a different part of the trading chain. Talos provides execution connectivity, STS provides principal liquidity and the custody network can keep assets outside the dealer during parts of the settlement process.

Crypto Options Competition Is Moving Into Institutional Workflows

The integration follows a broader expansion in electronic options trading. FalconX launched a round-the-clock institutional options platform and also connected its principal liquidity to Talos. Coinbase’s completed $2.9 billion acquisition of Deribit brought a reported $59 billion in open interest and more than $1 trillion in annual trading volume into its derivatives business.

Those developments show why distribution has become important to dealers. A liquidity provider may have the capital and expertise to price volatility, but it still needs to appear inside the systems used by asset managers, hedge funds, banks and trading desks. Institutions are less likely to adopt a provider if doing so requires a standalone connection, separate controls and manual post-trade processing.

STS Digital strengthened its capacity in February with a $30 million funding round led by CMT Digital, with Payward, Strobe Ventures, Arrington Capital, F-Prime and BitRock Capital participating. The company said the money would support its spot and options infrastructure, market-making activity and balance sheet.

The firm also launched structured products with Kraken in March, using options to support income and risk-management strategies. The Talos connection extends the same distribution strategy into multi-dealer institutional workflows. Its value will ultimately be measured by executable prices, fill rates, trading size and repeat client activity, none of which were disclosed in the announcement.
