SK hynix stock up 4.05% after Solidigm listing pause

The comfortable reading is that SK hynix stock rose more than 4 percent because it paused a US listing of Solidigm. That reading names the wrong line. Nasdaq ADS ticker SKHY closed Friday, 23 October 2026, at $137.02, up $5.33, or 4.05 percent, from Thursday’s $131.69. The Seoul ordinary, code 000660, closed at 1,263,000 won, up 2.35 percent from Thursday’s 1,234,000 won. That close is not more than 4 percent. CNBC’s 4.4 percent close is in neither saved series.

The missing fact is the financing. The English newsroom, dated 23 October 2026, said Solidigm halted a pre-IPO round and a US listing after capital-market conditions and share-price trends, and that the decision does not change growth prospects or investment needs. The pause names no cash, no partner, and no date for a new US fab. A higher ADS close does not fund that plant. The closes used here are Friday’s completed prints.

Key facts

  • Nasdaq historical file, Friday 23 October 2026: SKHY close $137.02, up $5.33, or 4.05 percent, from Thursday $131.69. Open $136.61, high $138.515, low $135.21, volume 16,311,650. Nasdaq, saved 25 October 2026. The quote page still says “Oct 22, 2026” while this price and volume sit on the 23 October row.
  • Same 75-close file, from 10 July 2026: 20-day average $164.04, so Friday is $27.02, or 16.47 percent, under it. 50-day average $169.86, so Friday is $32.84, or 19.34 percent, under it. Prior five sessions, 16 to 22 October: high $148.00, low $130.79.
  • Naver daily candle for 000660, same Friday: close 1,263,000 won, up 2.35 percent from 1,234,000 won. Open 1,200,000, high 1,284,000, low 1,171,000, volume 3,710,446. The high was 4.05 percent above Thursday. The close was not. Naver, saved 25 October 2026.
  • Naver’s quote screen lists a previous close of 1,223,000 won, a change of 40,000 won, and 3.27 percent. That previous close is 11,000 won under Thursday’s candle. This piece uses the candle.
  • SK hynix newsroom, 23 October 2026: the pre-IPO and IPO review stops. “This decision does not reflect any change in Solidigm’s growth prospects or investment needs.” Newsroom.
  • Chosun Biz, 8 October 2026, citing Bloomberg: Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead underwriters, a raise of up to $10 billion, a valuation that could reach $100 billion. The Friday newsroom names neither. Chosun Biz.
  • SK hynix newsroom, 30 December 2021: Intel NAND and SSD purchase of $9 billion, $7 billion at the first close and $2 billion in a later phase then expected in or after March 2025. Solidigm would run the SSD business from San Jose. That release does not name Rancho Cordova.
  • Yahoo Finance, on the Friday halt: the US shares were priced at $149 in July. $137.02 is $11.98, or 8.04 percent, under $149, and $61.61, or 31.02 percent, under the saved high close of $198.63 on 9 September 2026. Yahoo Finance.

What just happened, and why the obvious reading is wrong

SK hynix told investors on Friday that Solidigm, the US NAND and SSD subsidiary, had stopped reviewing a pre-IPO round and a US listing. The newsroom says recent capital-market conditions and share-price trends forced a reassessment of whether an IPO was the most useful option for SK hynix and its existing shareholders. The same page says existing plants cannot meet rising AI memory demand, so the US subsidiary still needs more US production.

CNBC said the shares jumped more than 4 percent after early losses and closed 4.4 percent higher after falling as much as 3 percent. The saved Seoul open, 1,200,000 won, was 2.76 percent under Thursday’s close, near that “as much as 3 percent.” The saved Seoul close was 2.35 percent. The saved ADS close was 4.05 percent. The 4.4 percent figure is dropped.

Seoul’s high, 1,284,000 won, was 50,000 won, or 4.05 percent, above Thursday’s close. That is a high. The close gave 21,000 won of it back. From the low of 1,171,000 won to the close is a 7.86 percent bounce. From the open to the close is 5.25 percent. None of those is the official 2.35 percent close-to-close change.

The ADS did clear 4 percent on the close, and SKHY is that line. Nasdaq’s info page calls it “SK hynix Inc. American Depositary Shares” on NASDAQ-GS. The historical file starts 10 July 2026 at $168.01. Seoul 000660 is the ordinary. Friday the two tapes did not move by the same percent.

Who is exposed

ADS holders marked $137.02, still $11.98 under the $149 July price and $61.61 under the 9 September close of $198.63. Ordinary holders marked 1,263,000 won. From the 29 September close of 1,790,000 won, that is a drop of 29.44 percent. The Jakarta Post, carrying Reuters, said the shares had tumbled 31 percent since late-September listing news, against a 20 percent drop in the KOSPI. Those two percents are the dispatch. The 29.44 percent is the saved candle.

SK Square is the parent the dual-listing guidelines would also reach. The Korea Times said that if the guidelines apply, the boards of SK hynix and SK Square have to judge the effect on ordinary shareholders, set protections, talk to holders or decide whether consent is required, adopt a resolution, and disclose it. Friday’s newsroom does not say those steps were taken.

Solidigm is the company the cash was supposed to reach. The 30 December 2021 release put the Intel NAND and SSD business, including the Dalian fab in China, at $9 billion, and put the new subsidiary in San Jose. Seoul Economic Daily, on 23 October 2026, said production sites are still only in Dalian and that the firm has been pushing a first plant on the US East Coast. The paper said a single fab now takes tens of trillions of won. That range is the paper’s, not the Friday newsroom.

Chosun Biz, citing Bloomberg on 8 October, named Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead underwriters and said JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and UBS had joined the syndicate. A halted review is not a filing that dismissed those firms. It says the offering they were reported to be leading is no longer under review.

NAND peers are on the same input cycle, not on this action. Micron’s Taoyuan talks are a separate labor story: Micron and the rejected bonus offer. SanDisk after Western Digital is the other NAND read: SanDisk after the Western Digital beat. A different down Friday for the chip index is here: the semiconductor index at 11,137.29.

What the tape and the primary pages show

The chart is the Nasdaq official daily close for SKHY, from 10 July 2026 through Friday’s $137.02. Won stays off that axis. Daily lows sit on the top panel. The averages use the 75 closes in the Nasdaq file.

Nasdaq official daily closes for SKHY through Friday 23 October 2026. The top panel includes the daily lows. The lower panel is the daily percent change for the last 30 sessions. FinanceFeeds chart, 25 October 2026.

$137.02 is $10.98 under the $148.00 high of 19 October and $6.23 above the $130.79 low of 22 October. Thursday was the sharp session: from Wednesday’s $143.25 to $131.69 is a drop of 8.07 percent. Friday’s rebound still leaves the ADS 4.35 percent under Wednesday.

The saved Naver series has 340 closes from 2 June 2025 through Friday. Its 20-day average is 1,558,050 won and its 50-day average is 1,634,340 won. Friday’s 1,263,000 won is 18.94 percent under the 20-day line and 22.72 percent under the 50-day line. Foreign ownership on the Friday candle is 48.77 percent, the same rate as Thursday. Naver’s integration snapshot listed market value at 922.6119 trillion won. Those Seoul figures are not on the ADS chart.

Reading Figure What it is
SKHY close $137.02, up 4.05 percent Nasdaq daily close. The headline line.
000660 close 1,263,000 won, up 2.35 percent Naver candle. Not more than 4 percent.
000660 high 1,284,000 won, 4.05 percent above Thursday An intraday high, not the close.
Naver screen Up 40,000 won, or 3.27 percent, from 1,223,000 won A previous close that is not Thursday’s candle.
CNBC 4.4 percent Not in either saved series. Dropped.
Friday newsroom Review halted. Investment need unchanged. Company text. No fab dollar amount.
8 October banks Up to $10 billion, valuation up to $100 billion Chosun Biz, citing Bloomberg. Not in the Friday newsroom.
August talk Up to $150 billion, raise of $10 billion to $15 billion Korea Times, Seoul Economic Daily, Yahoo Finance citing the Wall Street Journal.

A $100 billion figure from 8 October and a $150 billion figure from August reports are different stories about a review that stopped. The company page does not pick either number.

What the company and the officials said

“This decision does not reflect any change in Solidigm’s growth prospects or investment needs. Rather, in light of recent capital market conditions and share price trends, Solidigm determined that it was necessary to reassess whether an IPO would be the most beneficial option for SK hynix and its existing shareholders at this time.” SK hynix said it will keep assessing timing, scale, and financing methods. That is a process, not a payment.

The same page says an IPO could have lifted consolidated cash flow, leaving room for facility investment and for dividends, share repurchases, and share cancellations. A full valuation might have shown growth that “is not adequately reflected in SK hynix’s current corporate value.” Stopping the review drops that route. It does not name a direct investment to replace it.

On 1 October the newsroom said “Regarding Solidigm, no matters have been determined as of the date hereof.” Any use of capital had to be judged by the economic effect on existing shareholders. That 1 October note is the starting point the Friday halt moved off.

Jukan posted a fragment at 22:34 UTC on 22 October: “Our overseas subsidiary, Solidigm, has been exploring various financing options to expand its production capacity and strengthen its competitiveness. However, after taking capital market conditions and other factors into consideration, it has.” The post is cut off in the API text. The full sentences above are the English newsroom.

@indolee wrote at 02:13 UTC on 23 October that the filing went up at 7:33 a.m. Seoul time and that the official reason was capital-market conditions. That status is the source of the clock. The newsroom does not print 7:33. If the post is right, the text was public before the 9:00 a.m. Seoul open, which fits an ordinary that opened 2.76 percent under the prior close.

Lee Chan-jin, governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, is quoted by Seoul Economic Daily from the 19 October parliamentary audit: “both the FSC and the FSS judge that it runs afoul of the dual-listing rules.” The paper printed that in quotation marks and warned that its English is translated. This desk did not open a Korean transcript.

The Korea Times, by Kang Seung-woo and updated 23 October, reported the same governor saying on Monday that a Solidigm listing would violate the dual-listing rules, and reported that Financial Services Commission chairman Lee Eog-weon said on Thursday that the listing would fall under those guidelines. Seoul Economic Daily romanizes that chairman as Lee Eok-won. Those lines are reported remarks.

Yang Hyun-kyung, a researcher at iM Securities, told the Korea Times: “Solidigm’s withdrawal of its U.S. listing plan could ease concerns over SK hynix’s dual-listing risk.” And: “It could also ease worries about a dual-listing discount and equity dilution, as the decision addresses concerns over potential damage to shareholder value.” The Korea Times is the page. That is a discount point, not a statement that the fab is paid for.

The rule, the cash, and the plant the pause does not buy

Seoul Economic Daily said dual-listing guidelines introduced in August cover overseas listings and put five jobs on a parent board: assess the effect on shareholders, prepare protections, communicate with holders, pass a resolution, and disclose. The Friday newsroom does not say that process ran. The paper named People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo as raising the point. An unnamed senior industry official in the same piece is not a second quotation.

Reuters, in the text The Jakarta Post ran on 23 October, said people familiar with the matter treated a possible US factory as a bargaining point tied to hoped-for approval to export US chip tools to China. The dispatch said Korean talks with Washington on semiconductor investment are not the $350 billion commitment Seoul made last year in exchange for lower US tariffs. The Jakarta Post carried it. That bargaining language is not in the Friday newsroom.

Reuters also said the Korea Corporate Governance Forum welcomed the halt and, citing Korean brokerage averages, put SK hynix cash at 456 trillion won, or $344 billion, by the end of 2027. That is a 2027 estimate in the dispatch, not cash on the Friday balance sheet.

The company says the investment need is unchanged and that current plants cannot meet demand. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley were reported lead banks for a round no longer under review. The ADS rose 4.05 percent and the ordinary rose 2.35 percent. Neither percent funds a fab.

What happens next

Monday, 26 October 2026, is the next cash session in Seoul and in New York. The two lines will not print the same session percent just because the weekend passed. Friday already split them, 4.05 percent on SKHY against 2.35 percent on 000660, and the statement did not change the share count, the ADR ratio, or the won cash flow. A Monday gap can narrow that difference. It cannot turn Friday’s two closes into one number. The KOSPI path is a separate tape: the Kospi reversal note.

Through the 31 December 2026 close, the second call is about the document. Unless a later filing names the cash, a partner, or a restarted pre-IPO round, the US capacity plan stays unfunded in the record SK hynix published on Friday. Growth prospects and investment needs are unchanged, and the review is discontinued. An unchanged need plus a discontinued review is an open funding question. Yang Hyun-kyung’s discount point can be true at the same time. A narrower discount is not a transfer to a fab.

The third date is the one the company did not set. The next time a pre-IPO process is put back under review, the five board jobs at SK hynix and SK Square are the test Friday’s release did not start. No newsroom line puts that restart in 2026. Western Digital’s calendar is a peer earnings date, not an SK hynix payment: Western Digital before SanDisk reports.

This is not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

Which SK hynix line rose after the Solidigm pause, and by how much?

The Nasdaq ADS, SKHY, rose 4.05 percent. It closed Friday, 23 October 2026, at $137.02, up $5.33 from $131.69. The Seoul ordinary, 000660, closed at 1,263,000 won, up 2.35 percent from 1,234,000 won. The headline percent is the ADS because that is the saved close above 4 percent. The won close is not. CNBC’s 4.4 percent is not in either file.

Did the Seoul shares rise more than 4 percent on the close?

No. The Naver daily candle is up 2.35 percent. The day’s high, 1,284,000 won, was 4.05 percent above Thursday’s close, and that high is not the close. Naver’s quote screen showed 3.27 percent against a previous close of 1,223,000 won, which is not Thursday’s 1,234,000 won candle. The “more than 4 percent” lead is dropped for the ordinary and kept for SKHY.

What did SK hynix say the pause does not change?

The 23 October newsroom says the decision does not reflect any change in Solidigm’s growth prospects or investment needs. Solidigm still needs more US production because current plants cannot meet AI memory demand. The company said it will keep judging timing, scale, and financing. It did not name a dollar amount, a bank, or a construction date in that notice.

Who was reported to lead a Solidigm US listing, and at what valuation?

Chosun Biz on 8 October, citing Bloomberg, named Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead underwriters, with a raise of up to $10 billion and a valuation that could reach $100 billion. Korea Times, Seoul Economic Daily, and Yahoo Finance, the last citing the Wall Street Journal, reported a separate band of up to $150 billion and a raise of about $10 billion to $15 billion. The Friday newsroom names neither the banks nor those dollars.

Where is Solidigm, and what did the Intel deal cost?

The 30 December 2021 SK hynix release said the firm would pay $9 billion for Intel’s NAND and SSD business, $7 billion at the first close and $2 billion later, and that Solidigm would run the SSD business from San Jose. The release includes the Dalian fab in China. A Rancho Cordova headquarters was not in the pages opened for this piece. Seoul Economic Daily said production is still only in Dalian.

Does pausing the listing pay for a new US fab?

No. The newsroom says the investment need is unchanged and that the IPO review was one way to fund it, alongside direct investment. Stopping the review removes the external-capital route the company had been studying. It does not publish a replacement. Reuters reported brokerage estimates of large cash by the end of 2027. That estimate is not a Friday funding decision.
